The Story in 60 Seconds

West Ham United youngster Ryan Battrum returned from his month-long loan spell at Southend United after playing just 45 minutes across six National League fixtures. Southend manager Kieran Dyer revealed that the club wanted to extend the loan deal, but Battrum chose to return to Rush Green because he wanted guaranteed, regular playing time rather than sitting behind in-form right-back Vontae Daley-Campbell.

Following his return, Battrum played the full 90 minutes for Mark Robson's West Ham Under-21s in a 4-2 National League Cup win over Braintree Town on Tuesday night. Midfielder Preston Fearon also featured in the victory after returning from a limited loan spell at Forest Green.
