Sky Sports F1 pundit Martin Brundle labelled Lewis Hamilton's strategy at the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix "bizarre" after the Ferrari driver ignored pit calls and finished sixth. After an early stop on Lap 18, Hamilton chose to stay out during a Virtual Safety Car caused by Lance Stroll's stranded Aston Martin, forcing him to complete 44 laps on a single set of soft tires.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur confirmed that Hamilton rejected the pit instruction, stating the decision likely cost the team a podium finish alongside Charles Leclerc. Hamilton accepted full responsibility for the error, apologizing to Ferrari over the team radio and through a social media statement.
