Jorge Masvidal believes it’s time for veteran referee Herb Dean to step away from officiating. Dean has been the third man in the Octagon for over 20 years now and is among the most frequent faces seen at the UFC…

Jorge Masvidal has claimed veteran UFC referee Herb Dean should step away from officiating, blaming Dean's recent controversial decisions on nervous energy. Speaking on the Deep Waters podcast, Masvidal argued that Dean's hesitations prevent him from acting definitively to protect fighters in the Octagon, stating that he believes Dean's time as an official is done.
Dean has faced increased scrutiny following incidents such as uncalled illegal blows during the finish sequence between Ciryl Gane and Alex Pereira. While there is currently no evidence that athletic commissions are planning to remove Dean from officiating, Masvidal is among several figures, including Pereira and Henry Cejudo, who have publicly criticized the veteran referee.
