Dallas Mavericks head coach Dusty May has praised veteran big man Dwight Powell for his strong preseason showing as the team faces upcoming roster cuts. The Mavericks hold 16 standard contracts and must trim at least one player or execute a consolidation trade before next week's regular-season opener. May noted that Powell has provided strong value and helped the team function well on the floor.
While May expressed his appreciation for Powell, he stated that final roster decisions will ultimately be handled by team president Masai Ujiri and general manager Mike Schmitz. Powell, a 13-year veteran and the longest-tenured Maverick, entered training camp on a partially guaranteed contract after averaging 3.3 points and 4.1 rebounds over 63 appearances last season.
