The New York Jets have designated rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. to return to practice following an ankle injury suffered in Week 1. Head coach Aaron Glenn announced Wednesday that Cooper will practice this week. The move opens a 21-day practice window for the team to either activate Cooper from injured reserve to the 53-man roster or keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Cooper, a first-round selection out of Indiana in the 2026 NFL Draft, played only five snaps in the season opener against Tennessee before getting hurt. During that limited appearance, he recorded a 30-yard reception that helped set up a touchdown. Glenn emphasized that practice reps will be critical as the team evaluates Cooper's progress before deciding on his game-day readiness.
