NASCAR is reportedly preparing to build more than 80 race cars for the upcoming Days of Thunder sequel, according to an interview between NASCAR CEO Steve O'Donnell and the Wall Street Journal. Star Tom Cruise is set to return as Cole Trickle alongside co-star Anne Hathaway, with the movie scheduled for release in June 2028. Cruise recently confirmed the project at Daytona International Speedway, telling drivers and teams that he intends to portray the sport authentically.
The large vehicle production surpasses the roughly 60 race cars used during the original 1990 film's production. NASCAR hopes the high-profile sequel will draw new global audiences to the sport, following a model similar to producer Jerry Bruckheimer's recent motorsport projects.
