Tennis insider Jon Wertheim recently gave his blunt reaction to the call for Filipino phenom Alex Eala to be selected for the WTA Finals despite not being ranked in the Top 8.

Tennis insider Jon Wertheim bluntly dismissed a proposal calling for Filipino star Alex Eala to be included in the WTA Finals, labeling the idea "anarchy." The suggestion originated from an article in The Manila Times, which argued that the 21-year-old should be granted a spot at the prestigious year-end championship due to her significant popularity and strong accomplishments, despite not being ranked within the WTA's top eight.
Eala, currently ranked World No. 19, has enjoyed a successful 2026 campaign highlighted by title victories at the Birmingham Classic and the Mubadala DC Open. Meanwhile, the confirmed field for the 2026 WTA Finals includes qualifiers Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, Mirra Andreeva, Linda Noskova, Jessica Pegula, and Coco Gauff.
