South Africa respond to their heavy first-Test defeat by Australia by calling up “Aussie agitator” Matthew Breetzke.

South Africa has called up batter Matthew Breetzke for the second Test against Australia in Gqeberha following a heavy 214-run defeat in the series opener. Breetzke replaces Tristan Stubbs in the squad, while wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne is set to lose the gloves to Ryan Rickelton. Uncapped Marques Ackerman is also in contention to feature in the revamped top order.
Head coach Shukri Conrad cited Breetzke's aggressive temperament and character as key reasons for his selection, referencing his disruptive play during the preceding one-day international series. South Africa must avoid defeat on Sunday to keep the three-match series alive, with pace bowler Kagiso Rabada also expected to return from a hamstring injury.
