Phoenix Suns guard Dillon Brooks revealed that he embraces playing a villain role in the NBA to keep himself motivated throughout the 82-game regular season. Speaking with Michael Porter Jr. on the NBPA's show PLYR2PLYR, Brooks explained that using trash talk forces him to back up his words on the court, while noting he remains completely relaxed outside of basketball.
Brooks compared his disruptive on-court persona to players like Draymond Green and Patrick Beverley, stating that adopting a distinct character helps him reach a focused flow state. After establishing his reputation during six seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, Brooks will look to bring that defensive intensity alongside Devin Booker for the Suns this season.
