The CAN 2025 dispute between Senegal and Morocco could have financial consequences, particularly for commercial partners and African football authorities.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport is set to rule on the disputed CAN 2025 final between Senegal and Morocco following a hearing in Lausanne, Switzerland. Senegal initially won the match 1-0 in January, but CAF later awarded the title to Morocco after Senegalese players temporarily left the pitch to protest a late penalty. The Senegalese Football Federation subsequently appealed CAF's decision to CAS.
Sports lawyer Renaud Duchêne highlighted the significant financial and legal ramifications of the pending verdict, including potential questions around sponsorship bonuses. While contractual restitution of bonuses is legally possible, Duchêne considers sponsor clawbacks unlikely due to reputational risks. The case is expected to prompt CAF and commercial partners to update future regulations and contract clauses regarding match incidents.
