Shakur Stevenson has picked Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis to win a potential superfight against Vasiliy Lomachenko. The prediction adds intrigue to the lightweight division, with both Davis and Lomachenko navigating returns to the sport after extended periods of inactivity.
According to a report, Stevenson believes Davis would emerge victorious if the two were to meet. The matchup pits the explosive power of Davis against the technical boxing of Lomachenko, a fight long discussed by fans. Davis has not competed since a bout in March 2025, while Lomachenko’s last fight was a stoppage victory over George Kambosos Jr. in May 2024. Both men are expected to schedule comeback fights later this year, potentially reopening the door for this contest.
However, the path to making the fight is complicated. Davis was initially in talks to fight Floyd Schofield for the vacant WBA lightweight title. More recently, reports emerged that Davis’s team contacted Devin Haney about a fight, which would likely take place at a much higher weight class near 147 pounds. For a Lomachenko fight to become a reality, Davis would need to abandon any plans for a Haney encounter and commit to the 135-pound division, where Lomachenko is expected to campaign.
Further complicating matters, Haney has been ordered to defend his WBO title against mandatory challenger Keyshawn Davis. This makes a Haney-Tank fight less probable in the immediate future and keeps the focus on the lightweight division. While Stevenson’s prediction fuels discussion, the actual booking of Davis vs. Lomachenko depends entirely on which opponents and weight classes the fighters choose for their respective returns.
