Liverpool have been very active in the transfer market recently, but they have made a few mistakes.
Writer George James argues that Liverpool's biggest summer mistake was failing to sign midfielder Elliot Anderson, who instead joined Manchester City from Nottingham Forest for £116 million. After Liverpool sold Curtis Jones without securing a direct replacement, Anderson excelled against them in City's recent win at Anfield, leading the match in touches, passes, duels won, and fouls won.
Liverpool spent over £650 million across recent windows under manager Andoni Iraola, including £240 million on Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak in 2025. James suggests Liverpool should target Anderson again if Manchester City faces enforced player sales following their guilty verdict for over 100 rule breaches.
