Manchester United have been linked with a number of huge names in the transfer market over the years

Former midfielder Clarence Seedorf revealed he planned to join Manchester United before a phone call persuaded him to sign for Inter Milan instead. Speaking to Kobbie Mainoo on Amazon Prime Video Sport, Seedorf explained that manager Marcello Lippi called and convinced him with the prospect of playing behind strikers Ronaldo and Christian Vieri.
Seedorf left Real Madrid to complete a permanent transfer to Inter Milan for around £20 million (€24 million). Although he won no silverware at Inter, the Dutch midfielder later enjoyed a trophy-laden decade with rivals AC Milan before retiring in 2014 at Botafogo.
