Elijah Ponder has been a major breakout star for the Patriots through the first five games of the 2026 season.

Musket Fire's Sara Marshall highlights New England Patriots outside linebacker Elijah Ponder, an undrafted free agent who has emerged as a standout pass rusher early in the 2026 season. After Harold Landry was sidelined with an injury, Ponder stepped into a prominent role and recently earned a spot on Pro Football Focus's NFL Team of the Week following a strong performance against Kirk Cousins and the Raiders.
Marshall notes that Ponder has accumulated 19 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and a defensive touchdown through the early part of the season. Working alongside rookie Gabe Jacas and veteran Dre'Mont Jones, Ponder has helped address preseason concerns about head coach Mike Vrabel's edge rush depth, establishing himself as a key defensive contributor.
