The Lakers’ roster overhaul this summer brought many unlikely or unfamiliar faces to Los Angeles in a flurry. But before their free agent frenzy, which included big deals to Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quentin Grimes, and Collin Sexton, they made a call…

The Los Angeles Lakers contacted the Minnesota Timberwolves during the offseason regarding a potential trade for forward Naz Reid, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic on The Zach Lowe Show. Los Angeles sought an offensive-minded power forward and checked on Reid's availability, though the team never presented a serious trade offer to Minnesota.
Minnesota later included Reid in a trade package to acquire LaMelo Ball rather than moving him for salary cap relief. The Lakers opted instead to preserve their assets, trading for center Walker Kessler and utilizing their available cap space on free agents Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quentin Grimes, and Collin Sexton.
