Nico Williams' agent, Felix Tainta, revealed that the Athletic Bilbao winger rejected interest from Arsenal and several other top European clubs in summer 2024. Despite a determined effort by Arsenal to sign the Spanish international following Euro 2024, Williams declined a move to England.
Tainta noted that Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain also pursued Williams. Barcelona was the winger's preferred destination, but registration uncertainties prevented a deal, ultimately leading Williams to remain with Athletic Bilbao on a permanent ten-year contract.
