The Mets must do more than just match Tarik Skubal's best offer to land him in free agency.

Writer Pat Ragazzo argues that the New York Mets must aggressively outbid rivals, particularly the Los Angeles Dodgers, rather than simply matching offers to sign free agent pitcher Tarik Skubal. SNY insider Chelsea Janes reported that Mets owner Steve Cohen is widely expected to pay whatever is necessary to acquire the ace.
Ragazzo suggests Skubal would likely prefer the Dodgers due to familiarity after finishing the season in Los Angeles. Consequently, Ragazzo contends that the Mets and agent Scott Boras must pursue a record-setting permanent contract exceeding Gerrit Cole's $324 million pitching benchmark.
