Nathan MacKinnon humorously reacted to Colorado Avalanche rookie T.J. Hughes scoring his first NHL goal during a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. MacKinnon assisted on the third-period goal alongside Cale Makar and later praised Hughes postgame by joking about Hughes' exceptional kindness, remarking, "It's crazy how nice he is, to be honest. I wish I was that nice."
Hughes scored the one-timer from one knee at the 14:57 mark of the final period to extend Colorado's lead. Beyond scoring his first goal, the rookie has contributed to the Avalanche with strong defensive-zone faceoff metrics and physical play through his first eight games of the season.
