The Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the New York Rangers 1-0 in overtime on Saturday, with Kent Johnson scoring the game-winning goal at 3:26 of the extra period. Blue Jackets goaltender Jet Greaves earned his fifth career shutout by stopping all 29 New York shots. Despite a strong performance from rookie goaltender Dylan Garand, the Rangers failed to generate any offense.
Garand rebounded from a difficult prior outing to record 28 saves on 29 shots for the Rangers. Columbus secured the victory playing 4-on-4 after Zach Werenski set up Johnson's one-timer. The result moved New York's record to 6-3-1 on the season ahead of their upcoming game against the Anaheim Ducks.
