There's a lot of laughter down the phone in this chat. But there's also some sadness for Bugner Jr, because it was a year ago last month that his father passed away at 75 in Australia.
A new book titled The Bugner Identity, co-written by Joe Bugner Jr and author David Tossell, explores the extraordinary life and boxing career of the late Joe Bugner. The former British heavyweight champion, who passed away in Australia at the age of 75, fled Hungary as a child before rising to prominence in international boxing and high-profile celebrity circles.
The biography details Bugner's complex legacy, including his controversial 1971 victory over Henry Cooper, two distance fights against Muhammad Ali, and his personal relationships with stars such as George Best and Elvis Presley. Bugner Jr reflects on his father's final years living with dementia and hopes the book reframes his public image.
