The strategy the Steelers have employed to increase Nick Herbig’s snaps hasn’t worked, but they intend to continue trying. Having signed him to a four-year, $100 million extension this offseason, they have every incentive to do so. On both fronts…

The Pittsburgh Steelers intend to persist with using outside linebacker Nick Herbig in off-ball alignments despite limited early production, according to Matthew Marczi. After signing a four-year, $100 million extension, Herbig has taken roughly 50 snaps in a three-outside-linebacker package alongside starters T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith, but he has yet to record a sack or generate a pressure in 18 off-ball rushes this season.
Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham indicated the coaching staff will not abandon the package, stating they must better equip Herbig to utilize his quickness and power inside. Marczi argues that playing Herbig inside may be hindering his pass-rushing rhythm and overall tackling efficiency.
