One French politician has ruthlessly called out NBA superstar Victor Wembanyama. The 2026-27 NBA season is right around the corner and San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama is expected to have another phenomenal campaign.
Nice Mayor Eric Ciotti has strongly criticized San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, alleging the NBA star promoted recent civil unrest in France. The backlash began after Wembanyama posted a popular ticking clock meme on his X account ahead of protests scheduled for October 17. Ciotti stated that high-profile French figures who appeared to back the riots hold a historic responsibility for their actions.
Wembanyama has not publicly responded to Ciotti's criticism. Meanwhile, numerous social media users have defended the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year, with many supporters claiming the post was merely referencing the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season rather than French political unrest.
