While there is plenty of hockey to be played before the Stanley Cup is handed out this spring, there’s growing concern about the lack of excitement come next offseason.
Daily Faceoff analysts argue that the NHL's 2027 free-agency class is shaping up to lack major excitement. Following Alex DeBrincat's seven-year contract extension with the Detroit Red Wings, alongside previous deals for stars like Cale Makar and Mark Stone, few premier players are expected to hit the open market on July 1.
During a discussion on Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton highlighted that high pre-free agency contract offers incentivize players to lock in guaranteed money early. They noted that stars like Nikita Kucherov, Sidney Crosby, and Jason Robertson are likely to remain with their current teams, leaving limited high-end talent available.
