Demirbay's debut for Germany came in a friendly against Denmark before he scored in a Confederations Cup victory over Cameroon.

Former Germany international Kerem Demirbay revealed in an interview that he deeply regrets his decision to represent Germany instead of Turkey. The 33-year-old midfielder earned two caps for Germany in June 2017 while playing for Hoffenheim, scoring one goal during a Confederations Cup victory against Cameroon.
Demirbay stated that he originally wanted to play for Turkey and claimed his international exile began after staff saw his Turkish border tattoo when he removed his shirt. He confirmed he would never represent Germany again.
