Hans-Joachim Watzke reveals that he considered making Thomas Tuchel Germany coach after 2022 World Cup

Hans-Joachim Watzke, the vice-president of the German Football Association (DFB), has revealed that he considered appointing Thomas Tuchel as Germany's national coach after the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Following Germany's group stage exit in Qatar, Watzke thought about replacing Hansi Flick with Tuchel, who was a free agent at the time after being dismissed by Chelsea.

However, Watzke explained that the decision was not solely his to make, and the DFB ultimately decided to continue with Flick. Flick was later sacked following a 4-1 defeat to Japan, leading to the appointment of Julian Nagelsmann, while Tuchel eventually joined Bayern Munich.
