Niko Kovač contract extension at Borussia Dortmund ‘only a matter of time’

Borussia Dortmund CEO Carsten Cramer has stated that coach Niko Kovač signing a contract extension is "only a matter of time." The announcement comes amid a flawless start to the 2026/27 Bundesliga season, with Dortmund sitting two points clear at the top of the table after four consecutive victories. While Kovač's current contract expires at the end of the campaign, the club remains eager to secure his long-term future.

Kovač took charge in February 2025 after replacing Nuri Şahin, guiding the team to a runner-up finish last season. Alongside winning starts in the UEFA Champions League and DFB Cup, the 54-year-old manager recently set a club record for the most points collected in his first 50 games in charge. Cramer noted that final discussions will conclude soon following the international break.
