The Story in 60 Seconds

German Football Association vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed he considered appointing Thomas Tuchel as Germany head coach following the country's group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Watzke contemplated replacing then-manager Hansi Flick with Tuchel, who is the current England manager.

However, Watzke was unable to push the idea through with then-DFB sporting director Oliver Bierhoff, and the decision was made to continue with Flick.
