Wolfsburg and veteran midfielder Christian Eriksen have mutually agreed to terminate the 34-year-old's contract. Eriksen originally signed a two-year deal with the club in September 2025. Following Wolfsburg's relegation to the 2. Bundesliga, Eriksen requested to end the agreement early to remain close to his family in Denmark.

Eriksen recorded three goals and nine assists in 34 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign. He had not played for Wolfsburg since collapsing during a friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine in June. Managing director for sport Dieter Hecking confirmed the club granted Eriksen's request.
