Argentine goalkeeper was stretchered off after a sickening clash of heads
Chelsea have confirmed that goalkeeper Emi Martinez underwent successful surgery after suffering a fractured jaw and concussion during Saturday's 2-0 win over Everton. The Argentine was stretchered off in the second half following a clash of heads with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and taken to a hospital for assessment.
Manager Xabi Alonso confirmed Martinez left the stadium conscious before testing, and a club statement later confirmed no serious brain damage occurred. Pedro Neto scored both goals in the victory, while Martinez is aiming to return to action in a few weeks.
