Former Tottenham Hotspur business partners Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis are leading competing consortiums to purchase a London-based franchise in the upcoming NBA Europe league. The NBA intends to invest approximately £7.6 billion over ten years to establish a 16-team European competition, with the proposed London team estimated to be worth more than £1 billion. Levy has partnered with Liberty Global and MSP Sports Capital, while the Lewis family has aligned with the Checketts and Eccles families.
The contest follows Levy's dismissal as Tottenham executive chairman by Lewis's children after a 25-year tenure. Additional bidders reportedly include Todd Boehly and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. Potential London venues being considered for the franchise include the Battersea Power Station redevelopment site and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
