Burnley have appointed former Switzerland midfielder Fabio Celestini as their new head coach following the dismissal of Nicky Hayen four days earlier. The 50-year-old manager takes over a side sitting 22nd in the Championship with just one win from their opening 12 league games. Celestini's first match in charge will be Saturday's home Championship fixture against Portsmouth.
Celestini most recently managed CSKA Moscow until leaving in May and previously led Swiss side Basel from the bottom of the table to a domestic league and cup double. Burnley's chief football officer, Diego López, praised the new manager's passion and determination, while the club did not publicly disclose the length of his contract.
