Burnley's pursuit of Genoa sporting director Diego Lopez has gained momentum, but reports from Italy raise concerns about his recent track record. According to Corriere dello Sport, Genoa had already been seeking a replacement director because Lopez's recent transfer business was unconvincing. The Italian club reportedly welcomed Burnley's approach as Lopez faced heavy criticism and the threat of dismissal with Genoa sitting second from bottom in Serie A.
Sport Witness notes that the 37-year-old Spaniard oversaw extensive player turnover across the last two transfer windows, but delayed decisions negatively affected the team's performances under Daniele De Rossi. A move to Burnley would offer Lopez a fresh start, potentially collaborating with Monchi, who serves as director at sister club Espanyol.
