Kim Hellberg believes Ashley Phillips has what it takes to reach the top - and thinks Middlesbrough can help him fulfil his vast potential
Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg believes summer signing Ashley Phillips has the potential to become a top Premier League defender. The 21-year-old England Under-21 international joined Middlesbrough from Tottenham after previously spending two loan spells at Stoke City, where he made over 75 appearances.
Hellberg praised Phillips' defensive abilities and mindset while noting that the center-back is actively developing his skills in possession. Phillips featured alongside Adilson Malanda in Middlesbrough's recent clean sheets against Queens Park Rangers and Wolverhampton Wanderers, as Hellberg manages rotation among four center-backs.
