Eckert sets out ‘important’ Dobbin prediction amid slow Saints start

Southampton FC head coach Tonda Eckert has backed forward Lewis Dobbin to play a vital role this season despite a slow start. The 23-year-old joined Southampton from Aston Villa during the summer in a deal worth up to £9million. Although Dobbin impressed during pre-season, he has made just one Championship start so far this campaign.

Eckert praised Dobbin's development and engagement, explaining that adapting to a new club often takes time. Competition from teammates including Finn Azaz has limited Dobbin's starting opportunities, and he most recently featured as a 90th-minute substitute in a 2-1 defeat against Wrexham.
