Peter Dobing is remembered as the League Cup-lifting Stoke City captain who turned up for training every day in a tweed suit, could be ruthless on the pitch or dreaming about a day on the river…

Stoke City legends have paid tribute to former captain Peter Dobing, who passed away at the age of 87. Dobing famously captained Stoke City to victory in the 1972 League Cup, scoring 95 goals in 377 appearances for the club.
Former teammates Terry Conroy, Denis Smith, and Mike Pejic remembered Dobing as a quiet gentleman off the pitch and a fierce, gifted competitor on it. After retiring from football, Dobing worked in the pottery industry before battling illness in his later years.
