Former Stoke City player of the year James McClean has been particularly outspoken as he promotes a new autobiography

Derry-based mental health charity Men's Action Network has requested a meeting with James McClean and his club, Derry City, following controversial remarks made by the footballer. In an interview promoting his autobiography, McClean stated that he views men speaking to psychologists or opening up about emotions as a sign of weakness.
Charity chairperson Michael Lynch emphasized that the invitation was not a personal attack, but an effort to challenge a damaging message. Lynch stated that asking for support is an act of strength and noted that McClean's influential status among young men makes addressing the stigma surrounding male wellbeing crucial.
