West Ham United midfielder Edson Álvarez was denied permission to have a personal documentary film crew follow him during Mexico's World Cup campaign. According to journalists Andrés Vaca and David Faitelson, then-national team manager Javier Aguirre rejected the 28-year-old's request to film inside the dressing room, hotel, and training camp in order to avoid team tension.
Álvarez currently faces a challenging spell at club level after returning from a loan at Fenerbahçe to West Ham. Manager Nuno Espírito Santo has reportedly excluded him from matchday squads following an EFL Cup appearance on August 8, while new Mexico manager Rafael Márquez also omitted him from the latest international roster.
