‘From Berlin to Belgrade and Barcelona: The story of Wolves in Europe’ by club historian, Pete Crump

Club historian Pete Crump recounts Wolverhampton Wanderers' early European campaigns, starting from the historic 1954 floodlit victory against Honved that catalyzed the creation of the European Cup. Under manager Stan Cullis, Wolves entered the European Cup in the 1958/59 season, suffering a 4-3 aggregate loss to German side Schalke 04 in their tournament debut.
Wolves returned to the European Cup in 1959/60, defeating ASK Vorwarts and Red Star Belgrade before falling 9-2 on aggregate to Barcelona in the quarterfinals. Following an FA Cup triumph, Wolves competed in the inaugural 1960/61 European Cup Winners' Cup, overcoming Austria Vienna before being eliminated 3-1 on aggregate by Glasgow Rangers in the semifinals.
