Former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has received a shock transfer approach from Brazilian giants Sao Paulo following his release from Cremonese. The 39-year-old free agent is assessing options alongside interest from Championship side West Ham and League One Sheffield Wednesday.
The iconic forward is actively weighing up a wild move across the Atlantic to South America. Sao Paulo have made direct contact with the veteran hitman as they search for urgent firepower upfront. Sitting 12th in the Brazilian top flight after 22 matches, the six-time champions are struggling in front of goal, scoring just five times across their last six outings.
However, Vardy also holds intriguing options closer to home. West Ham want his experience to spearhead their bid for an immediate return to the Premier League from the Championship. Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday have made an ambitious approach to bring him into their League One rebuilding project.
Vardy became a free agent in June after completing a season in Italy with Cremonese. He notched seven goals in 29 appearances for La Cremo, though his efforts were not enough to prevent relegation to Serie B. Having returned to England with his family, he launched a weekly podcast while hunting his next challenge.
Yet anyone hoping for an emotional return to Leicester City has been dealt a firm reality check. The Foxes are navigating their second season in League One, but Vardy firmly rejected any suggestion of a fairytale homecoming.
Asked on his podcast by presenter Manish Bhasin if he would consider a return to King Power Stadium, Vardy gave a blunt response:
“Nah that’s gone.”
He added: “I’ll always support them and follow them, that’s the best thing I can do now.”
Vardy turns 40 in January, but his proven instinct inside the penalty area continues to attract suitors. With Sao Paulo leading the foreign chase and domestic sides hovering, the former England striker must now choose between a South American adventure or one final domestic battle.
