George Gillett dead aged 87: Former Liverpool owner and businessman passes away after battle with Alzheimer’s

Former Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has died at the age of 87 following a battle with Alzheimer's disease. Montreal Canadiens owner Geoff Molson confirmed Gillett's passing in an official statement. Gillett, an American businessman, previously co-owned Liverpool alongside Tom Hicks between 2007 and 2010 before selling the club to John Henry's New England Sports Ventures.

Gillett and Hicks completed a £174 million takeover of the Premier League club in 2007, during which the team achieved a second-place league finish in the 2008–09 season. Outside of football, Gillett also owned the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and previously held stakes in the Miami Dolphins and the Harlem Globetrotters.
