Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany will miss Sunday's match against Freiburg after collapsing at the club's training ground on Friday. The 40-year-old Belgian manager was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance following an initial response by an emergency helicopter. Bayern's director of sport Max Eberl confirmed Kompany is stable but will remain hospitalized for several days to undergo further testing and establish the cause of the incident.
Assistant coaches Aaron Danks and Rene Maric will oversee the first team until further notice. Kompany had recently been dealing with a hip injury and a severe viral infection that nearly sidelined him during a midweek Champions League draw with Arsenal. Additionally, Bayern will be without Colombian forward Luis Diaz for the foreseeable future due to a hamstring injury.
