Canadian midfielder Justin Smith called into October CanMNT camp

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch announced that midfielder Justin Smith has earned his first senior call-up for the CanMNT October international window. Canada Soccer confirmed the selection on Monday ahead of upcoming matches against Peru in Montreal and the United States in St. Paul. Marsch revealed the decision following Canada's 1-0 victory over Chile in Toronto.

The 23-year-old Paris-born defensive midfielder, who previously captained Canada's U20 team, signed a three-year contract with Spanish club CD Eldense this summer. Smith offers defensive versatility as both a midfielder and center-back, helping cover for injured defender Derek Cornelius after starting every minute of Eldense's first six matches this season.
