UEFA has appointed an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector to investigate an alleged spitting incident that occurred at halftime during the Republic of Ireland's match against Israel on October 4, 2026. The clash took place in Bačka Topola, Serbia, where FAI head of athletic performance Damien Doyle claimed he was spat on by an opposing player.
Following the 1-1 UEFA Nations League draw, Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson accused the Israeli squad of attempting to provoke his team, commending his players for keeping their composure. Additional confrontations occurred at the final whistle involving Ireland midfielder Jayson Molumby.
