The Parkhead side slumped to another Europa League defeat, this time losing 4-1 to Portuguese giants Benfica

Former SPL chief executive Roger Mitchell claimed Celtic is gaslighting supporters after manager Martin O'Neill praised the team's display following a 4-1 Europa League defeat to Benfica. While O'Neill described Celtic's second-half performance as absolutely terrific, Mitchell argued that Benfica merely eased off after establishing a commanding early lead.
Benfica built a 3-0 first-half advantage via two goals from Jhon Duran and a strike from Alexander Bah. Camilo Duran pulled one back for Celtic before Vangelis Pavlidis sealed the victory, leaving Celtic 34th in the Europa League table amid ongoing tensions between supporters and club leadership.
