The Story in 60 Seconds

Scottish League One club Cove Rangers have been hit with a season-long registration embargo by the SPFL following multiple rule breaches regarding a 2024 contractual payment to a player. The transfer ban will remain in effect until May 31, 2027, preventing the club from making signings until next summer. The league also handed the team a £5,000 fine, with £2,000 suspended.

An SPFL Disciplinary Tribunal found that Cove Rangers failed to make a contractual payment when due, failed to notify the league of the default, and provided incorrect information regarding overdue payables as of January 31, 2026. Although the club has now paid the player in full, Cove expressed disappointment over the severity of the sanction and is reviewing its options.
