La Liga president Javier Tebas has described FIFA's decision to overturn Folarin Balogun’s World Cup red card as "the most serious incident in the history of football." Speaking at a FIFPro summit in London on Tuesday, Tebas heavily criticized FIFA after the one-match suspension was rescinded following a phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, which allowed Balogun to feature in the round of 16 against Belgium.
Tebas also condemned FIFA over calendar congestion, arguing that domestic leagues and player unions are routinely ignored regarding expanded tournaments. Additionally, Tebas addressed Manchester City's legal case, stating the club should face the most severe sanctions available following reports regarding their Premier League charges.
