United States Men's National Team head coach Mauricio Pochettino has named midfielder Tyler Adams as the team's full-time captain moving forward. Adams is set to lead the squad out on the field for an upcoming friendly match against Mexico in Phoenix. Pochettino officially informed the team of the captaincy decision during training on Thursday.
The appointment comes following the international retirement of Tim Ream, who captained the USMNT through the 2026 World Cup. Adams previously served as the full-time captain under former coach Gregg Berhalter at the 2022 World Cup before the armband rotated and was later given to Christian Pulisic for the 2024 Copa América.
