Warren Gatland has opposed plans to cut a Welsh region and revealed the stark warning he gave the WRU board during his successful first spell…

Former Wales head coach Warren Gatland has opposed the Welsh Rugby Union's plan to cut domestic sides from four to three. Speaking to BoyleSports, Gatland warned that reducing regions would harm international player selection and argued that the governing body would need to scrap its 25-cap eligibility rule if domestic playing spots are lost.
Gatland also revealed he warned the WRU board during his first tenure that on-field success was masking deep structural issues. The WRU recently reported an £18m loss and plans to reduce teams ahead of the 2028/29 season to ease financial pressure.
