Football calendar reform is back on UEFA’s agenda as Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín proposes limiting players to 31 or 32 Liga matches.

Atlético de Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has proposed capping the number of LaLiga matches an individual player can be available for to 31 or 32 games in a 38-match season. Speaking at the World Football Summit alongside LaLiga's Javier Gómez and English players' union president Maheta Molango, Gil Marín stated that he regularly raises this concept in his role on UEFA's Executive Committee.
The proposal focuses on limiting individual player availability rather than decreasing the total number of club fixtures. Gil Marín highlighted fixture congestion as a major issue, arguing that while UEFA and FIFA pursue additional games for financial and power incentives, a necessary balance must be found to protect players and top clubs.
