Manchester City decided against pursuing a permanent transfer for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong after reviewing medical reports regarding his knee injury. The Premier League club had explored signing the Dutch international following the departure of Rodri to Barcelona, and Barca was reportedly open to negotiations before City withdrew interest.
De Jong sustained the knee injury at the 2026 World Cup, which sidelined him for the start of the 2026-27 campaign. After moving away from De Jong, Manchester City signed Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, while De Jong recently returned to full training with Barcelona.
